Matlock Bath Rowing Boats

Take a rowing boat or pedalo onto the River Derwent at Matlock Bath.  When you've finished there's plenty to see in the town - amusement arcades, fish and chips shops!  Just like being at the seaside in the middle of the country.

River Derwent White Water Rafting

The River Derwent between Darley Dale and Matlock is fast and it's possible to white water raft on this stretch.  There are a number of companies that do this, we've identified one, below, for you to try.

Chatsworth House

Chatsworth Estate is home to one of the most stunning historical houses in the UK and a fantastic place to visit for the whole family.  

While the house and gardens are stunning, children love the adventure playground and farm shop.

Heights of Abraham

This “must see” Derbyshire jewel of an attraction is accessed by state of the art enclosed cable cars high above the spectacular Derwent Valley.

Once you’ve purchased your cable car ticket, access to all the summit attractions is free.  Head off to explore 60 acres of landscaped grounds, undercover interactive exhibitions, multi-media show caverns, adventure playgrounds, woodland walks and trails.

Ride the trams at Crich Tramway museum.  A great day out for all the family, including your dog!

Be transported back in time on vintage trams. Soak up the atmosphere in their period street with a visit to the shops and take refreshments in the tearooms and pub.

Matlock Farm Park

Ecclesbourne Valley Railway

The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is a 9-mile long heritage railway in Derbyshire. The headquarters of the railway centre on Wirksworth station, and services operate in both directions between Wirksworth and Duffield and from Wirksworth to Ravenstor.

Peak Lead Mining Museum

Not something that you would immediately think of as a family-friendly day out - but we've had great feedback on this museum, particularly if the weather isn't great.  The museum is interactive with tunnels and climbing shafts for the children. The Mine tour last for about an hour and there is panning for gold at the end.
