Stainsborough Hall offers self-catering accommodation near Carsington Water, with three distinct ways to stay, depending on your group size and the style of break you are planning. The Hall is our primary large-group option, sleeping up to 20 guests with exclusive use of the house and grounds. The Cottage Collection offers private cottages with shared dining space, and selected cottages are available individually at certain times of year. (The Hall and the Cottage Collection are separate and cannot be booked together). Both options are very popular for birthdays, family celebrations and group getaways in Derbyshire.

The Main House at Stainsborough Hall is a spacious self-catering country house near Carsington Water, sleeping up to 20 guests across 10 bedrooms. With generous living spaces, a large dining room, games room, private gardens, access to the estate’s shared tennis court and the option to add a log-fired hot tub, it’s ideal for family gatherings, special birthdays and relaxed group stays in the Derbyshire countryside.

The dog-friendly Cottage Collection at Stainsborough Hall offers five self-catering holiday cottages near Carsington Water, sleeping up to 23 guests when booked together. With flexible bedrooms, a shared dining barn, relaxed communal space, access to the estate’s shared tennis court and the option to add a log-fired hot tub, it’s ideal for extended families, walking groups and relaxed countryside gatherings.

Individual Cottages

The individual cottages at Stainsborough Hall offer comfortable self-catering accommodation near Carsington Water for smaller groups, couples and families. Each cottage has its own character and living space, with access to the estate grounds, shared tennis court and wonderful countryside walks nearby. Individual cottages are usually released within a shorter booking window, once larger group bookings have been prioritised.

Ideal for: smaller groups, couples and families, guests with dogs and quieter countryside stays.

Stainsborough Hall is well placed for exploring Carsington Water, the southern Peak District and the surrounding Derbyshire countryside. Guests can enjoy walking, cycling, waterside views, local pubs, market towns, historic houses and family attractions, all within easy reach of the estate.

The location works particularly well for guests who want a peaceful countryside base with plenty to do nearby. Carsington Water is close by, with routes around the reservoir, places to eat and opportunities to enjoy the surrounding landscape. Wirksworth, Ashbourne, Matlock Bath, Bakewell and Chatsworth are also within reach for days out.

Yes. Stainsborough Hall is located near Carsington Water in Derbyshire, making it a good base for walking, cycling, countryside breaks and exploring the southern Peak District. You can walk directly from our land on the traffic-free trail around the reservoir.

There are three main ways to stay: the Main House, the Cottage Collection and individual cottages. The Main House sleeps up to 20 guests, the Cottage Collection sleeps up to 23 guests when booked together, and individual cottages sleep smaller groups at selected times of year.

No. The Main House and the Cottage Collection operate as separate booking units and cannot be combined. This helps keep guest numbers clear and ensures each part of the estate works properly for the group staying there.

Dogs are welcome in the cottages and when booking the Cottage Collection. The Main House is maintained as a pet-free environment.

Yes. There are two log-fired hot tubs on the estate: one for guests staying in the Main House and one beside the communal barn for guests booking the Cottage Collection together. The cottage hot tub is not available when cottages are booked individually.

No. Stainsborough Hall does not operate as a wedding venue and does not host wedding ceremonies or wedding receptions. Accommodation for guests attending a wedding elsewhere may be possible, subject to house rules and occupancy limits.

Yes. The local pub, The Miners Arms in Carsington, is also within walking distance, giving a relaxed option for a drink or meal without needing to drive.

No. Individual cottages are usually released within a shorter booking window, once larger group bookings have been prioritised.

Check-in is from 3.00pm and check-out is by 10.00am. Early check-in and late check-out may be available by prior arrangement and are subject to availability.
